"Resurrecting the Soul"

The 2024 1st Annual Men's Mental Health Summit, aimed to bring awareness to mental health specifically for men, acknowledging the unique inner and outer conflicts they face. This event created a much-needed safe space for men to explore their spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

Kabian Brown opened the summit with an inspiring speech that set the tone for the day. The worship session followed, featuring uplifting performances by Miriam, Equality, Jazzy, and Junior, which helped to create a spiritually enriching atmosphere. Kabian then introduced the concept of spiritual health, emphasizing its critical role in overall well-being.

Pastor Robert Shaw highlighted the importance of connecting with a higher power, leading the audience in a reflective moment of prayer. Transitioning into emotional health, Kabian prepared the attendees for a deeper exploration of their feelings.

Drew Oliver, Author of E Atlas, led a discussion on managing emotions entitled “The Evolving Man Has No Room For Revolving Emotions!” This session was particularly impactful, as it addressed the often-overlooked emotional struggles men face. Drew defined the key points to his discussion below:

Evolving-

when something or someone is developing at a pace from a real to a more complex form.

Room-

space that can be occupied or where something can be done, especially viewed in terms of whether there is enough.

Revolving-

turning around on or as if on an axis. a revolving platform.

Emotion-

natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one's circumstances, mood, or relationships with others.

To be evolved means not allowing yourself to be trapped in an endless loop of revolving motions!” Drew stated as he now grabbed the attention of the room. Emotions can unlock and unleash a greater good or bad, or they can capture and imprison positive or negative parts of our lives. Either way, staying in a constant loop without expansion limits personal growth and evolution. Then Drew went into a segment of his discussion that compared emotions to doing laundry.

The laundry hamper is you, and the clothes are your emotions. For days, you've been putting on and taking off clothes, putting them in your hamper, and watching it fill up. Finally, you find time to tend to your laundry. You take the clothes out of the hamper, essentially emptying yourself, and load them into the washer. You add detergent, set the timer, and start the machine.

But midway through the wash, you get distracted and forget to check on the clothes and take them out. Imagine if this kept happening. How can the clothes ever reach the dryer and become what they’re supposed to be if they keep getting caught in this endless cycle? They remain in a spiral, stuck in rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat. it is your responsibility to do what is needed to maintain a healthy emotional state!” noted Oliver.

Finally, Kabian guided the attendees into the mental health segment, emphasizing the importance of mental well-being. The event concluded with an interactive discussion and Q&A session, "Connecting It All," where presenters and guests shared their experiences and insights, tying together all aspects discussed throughout the day.

This summit was the realization of a vision that holds immense significance, Self-image.

The event gave life to open dialogue between men that have had different walks in life and allowed wisdom to be passed down to younger men that were present whom were between the ages of 17 to 19. It was a dope event and the energy was high. Cant wait for the next one.
